On the sidelines of the Digital DRC Mining Week held from June 17 to 19, the «Women in Mining» RDC, Wim RDC in acronym, on June 16, a meeting was held to share experiences, testimonies and expertise of each in its area of action.
Under the coordination of Dorothée Masele, Head of Wim DRC, Mrs. Getty Mpanu Mpanu, Deputy Director of the Office of the Head of State in charge of Infrastructures, mining resources, hydrocarbons, energies and ICTs also godmother of Wim DRC; Kaleba Huguette Ngoie-Kasongo, Executive Director of HEAR Congo (United States) and Lucie Kikadi, Director of Human Resources, Kibali Gold, DRC discussed the following points:
- How to develop strategies to encourage women to be heard in the mining sector?
- Address the issue of structural barriers regarding methods of recruiting women, and the challenge of finding female talent in the mining sector.
- Contribute to the development of women in mining and their rise to positions of responsibility.
- What is the impact of COVID-19 for women in mines and the solutions proposed to emerge from the crisis?
- Opportunities and constraints related to gender within the artisanal sector; how to focus on strategies to transform gender biases in the sector, and ensure equal access for women and men within the value chain?
As a reminder, it all started at the inaugural conference of the 2019 edition of DRC Mining Week which was held in Lubumbashi in June. It was decided, during these meetings, to create the Women In Mining DRC platform which brings together women from different mining companies, artisanal mining, civil society organizations and other commercial enterprises operating in the DRC. The objective is to put an end to all forms of discrimination against women in the mining sector in the DRC.
